GDELT assigns a Goldstein score to coded event interactions. PlaceBrief can aggregate those values geographically to describe the mix of indexed activity in an area. The score is one analytical signal, not a guarantee of local conditions.
Adverse (score < −3)

Moderate (−3 to +3)
Signals show a mixed or neutral range of indexed interactions, without a strong direction in the available evidence.

Geographic model
Events are projected onto an H3 hexagonal grid at resolution 7 — cells have an average area of roughly 5 km², with geographic variation. This supports efficient spatial aggregation across destination bounds.
Interpretation limits
Coverage and source density vary by destination and period. A lack of indexed events does not prove that nothing happened, and an aggregate score should always be read alongside the underlying sources, context blocks, and current local guidance.
